Electronic music festivals in Europe: which one to choose

Updated

The best electronic music festival in Europe depends on what you are after: a city that vibrates all night (ADE, Sónar), non-stop techno (Awakenings), a giant production (Tomorrowland), nature and a lake (Garbicz, Voodoo Village), a desert rave (Monegros), snow and mountains (Caprices, VSNZ Winter Arc) or a beach (Trotamundo). Here we compare them with real dates and prices from Monterrey, so you can choose with data.

How to choose your festival

Four questions help you decide:

  • City or nature? At ADE and Sónar the city is part of the plan; at Garbicz, Voodoo Village and Awakenings you sleep or spend the day among forest and lake.
  • One night or several days? Monegros runs about 22 hours straight; Garbicz and Trotamundo are a week of community.
  • Which weather do you like? Cold and snow in March, summer heat in July, or a beach in January.
  • How much do you want to spend? Trips range from $32,793 to $66,459 MXN per person.

If it is your first festival outside Mexico

Sónar and ADE are the easiest places to start: you stay in a city with public transport, you have free days to explore and the festival moves between nearby venues. Sónar is the cheaper of the two and ADE is the closest in dates.

If you want nature and community

Garbicz combines lake, forest and camping over five days, and it is one of the most affordable trips in the catalog. Voodoo Village takes place in the forest beside a castle, just outside Brussels, with a hotel instead of camping.

If you want non-stop techno

Awakenings brings three days of techno with more than 120 artists across eight areas and camping inside the site. Monegros is the most intense version: 22 straight hours in the desert, from one afternoon to the next morning.

If you want a giant production

Tomorrowland is the biggest festival on the list, with huge stages at De Schorre, in Boom. Our trip starts in Paris and reaches Belgium by train.

If you like cold and mountains

Caprices (about 2,000 meters, above Gstaad) and VSNZ Winter Arc (in Grindelwald) take place in March with snow. Skiing and mountain activities are paid separately.

If you prefer the beach

Trotamundo is the catalog's beach festival with an open trip: a week in Montañita, Ecuador, with Lost Beach Club at its center.
