What you need to travel to a festival in Europe
Updated
To travel from Mexico to a festival in Europe you need a valid passport (still valid more than three months after you leave and issued within the last ten years). You do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days in the Schengen area, and it is worth bringing travel insurance, an international card and a power adapter. Here is everything to sort out, in order.
Passport: the three-month and ten-year rule
To enter the Schengen area with a Mexican passport, the document must meet two conditions:
- Remain valid more than three months after the date you plan to leave European territory.
- Have been issued within the last ten years.
If you fail either one, you can be refused entry at the border. If yours is about to expire, renew it before booking flights.
Visa: not needed for short stays
As a Mexican citizen you do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period in the Schengen area. This applies to the countries where we operate: the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Poland and Switzerland, among others. Entry requirements can still change; confirm current information on the official page of the consulate or embassy of the country you are going to.
What they may ask you on arrival
At the border it is common to check your return ticket and proof of accommodation, and occasionally to show you have enough money for your stay. With UVIBE you have flight, hotel and itinerary documented once you confirm your spot.
Travel insurance
It is not mandatory for Mexicans in the Schengen area, but we recommend it: it covers medical expenses, cancellations and lost luggage, and costs little compared with the rest of the trip. Travel insurance is not included in our trips.
Minimum age
To travel with UVIBE you must be 18 or older at the time of the trip.
Money, country by country
International cards work almost everywhere, but carry some cash for local transport and stalls that do not take cards. The currency changes with the trip:
- Euro: the Netherlands (ADE, Awakenings), Belgium (Tomorrowland, Voodoo Village) and Spain (Sónar, Monegros).
- Polish zloty: Poland (Garbicz).
- Swiss franc: Switzerland (Caprices, VSNZ Winter Arc).
- US dollar: Ecuador (Trotamundo).
Plugs and voltage
Mexico uses type A/B plugs and 127 V. Europe mostly uses types C and F at 230 V; Switzerland uses type J, compatible with type C plugs. Bring a universal adapter. Most phone and camera chargers already accept both voltages, but check yours. Ecuador uses A/B at 120 V, like Mexico, so you do not need an adapter for Trotamundo.
What to pack
Think of two climates: the festival's and the city's or the transfers', which is usually cooler at night. Light layers work better than one heavy jacket. Each festival guide tells you the weather and what to bring.
